How Kim Wilde Met Her Husband Hal Fowler At A Movie Productions Set: Their Love Story

In 1996, English pop singer Kim Wilde and actor Hal Fowler crossed paths during the production of the West End musical "Tommy," a rock opera based on The Who's 1969 album. Wilde was cast in the role of Mrs. Walker, while Fowler portrayed Cousin Kevin. Their professional collaboration soon blossomed into a personal relationship, leading to a whirlwind romance.

Reflecting on their initial encounter, Wilde recounted that Fowler was unaware of her pop star status at the time. She mentioned, "He didn’t really know much about Kim Wilde... So I walk into rehearsal rooms... he’s not impressed, especially ’cause I turned up late for rehearsals the very first day." This unpretentious beginning laid the foundation for their connection.

By March 1996, their relationship had progressed, and Fowler extended a dinner invitation to Wilde. He took her to The Ivy, a renowned London restaurant, aiming to impress her. Wilde recalled, "He took me to The Ivy to impress me, thinking I went there all the time but I’d never been there in my life. I couldn’t believe how glamorous it was." This evening marked a significant step in their burgeoning romance.

Their bond deepened rapidly, and in June 1996, while in Calais, France, Fowler proposed to Wilde. She accepted, and the couple married on September 1, 1996, in Codicote, Hertfordshire. Wilde reflected on this period, stating, "This is the best time for me, ever. When I was on my own I always wanted to meet someone like Hal, and I had almost given up thinking I would ever find him." Their swift courtship and marriage underscored the intensity of their connection.

Following their marriage, the couple collaborated on various musical projects. Notably, in 2011, they performed a duet of David Bowie's "Kooks" for Wilde's album "Snapshots." Their creative partnership extended beyond the stage, enriching both their personal and professional lives.

After 25 years of marriage, Wilde and Fowler amicably separated and divorced in 2022. Despite the end of their marital relationship, they have remained on good terms and continue to co-parent their two children, Harry and Rose. Wilde has expressed contentment in her current life phase, stating, "I don’t think I’ve ever been as happy... Life is fantastic. I’ve learnt a lot during the last two years after the divorce." Their enduring respect and affection for each other highlight the strong foundation established during their initial meeting in "Tommy."
