Shocking Secrets: Who Really Cheated in ABBA and What Led to Their Breakups?

The breakup of ABBA is often associated with the personal struggles and relationships that unfolded behind the scenes, and one of the most talked-about aspects of the group's history involves the infidelity between its members. ABBA was made up of two married couples: Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog, and Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad. While the band’s public image was that of a tight-knit, harmonious group, their personal lives were filled with turmoil, including allegations of infidelity.

The most widely discussed case of cheating within ABBA was between Björn and Agnetha. Both Björn and Agnetha have been quite open about the struggles in their marriage, particularly the emotional distance that grew between them as their careers soared. While there have been rumors about infidelity, it is important to note that neither Björn nor Agnetha have confirmed definitive cheating between them. However, it is widely believed that their relationship suffered partly due to Björn's involvement with other women, leading to the emotional distance that ultimately contributed to their divorce in 1980.

On the other hand, Benny Andersson and Frida Lyngstad also went through their own turbulent personal lives during ABBA’s peak. Benny was known to have had a brief affair with a backup singer, which put a strain on his marriage to Frida. While both Benny and Frida have spoken about the pressures their marriage faced, including the challenges of maintaining a relationship in the midst of ABBA’s overwhelming success, there’s less direct public confirmation about whether infidelity was a defining factor in their separation. It is believed, however, that Benny's infidelity, among other pressures, contributed to the eventual breakup of their marriage in 1981.

Both couples were facing intense stress from their rising fame, constant touring, and the demands of their music careers, and this took a toll on their relationships. The pressures of being in one of the biggest bands in the world made it difficult for them to maintain their personal lives, and cheating, whether emotional or physical, was one of the manifestations of the strain they were under.

While cheating within ABBA is often implied or rumored, it is clear that the band's personal relationships were marked by complexity and challenges. Ultimately, it was the combination of professional pressures, personal conflicts, and emotional distance that led to the breakdown of the marriages within ABBA, not just infidelity alone.
